About this Book:

If you read the phrase Medical Missionary, what do you picture in your mind? A medically qualified individual moving from bed to bed with a bible in one pocket, tracts in another pocket and a barely concealed halo around his head?

Nothing could be further from the truth. Here is a story filled with unexpected difficulties and dangers and diseases rarely seen in England. Our witness lay in the lives we lived, the care we showed to those around us, the prayers we offered and the worship we led.

David did not wish to worry his parents so the letters did not mention the cobra that rose to confront him as he walked between wards whilst doing a night round. Nor of the patient in labour who was admitted with smallpox.

The Maternity Unit was well regarded, not only by the people of Ilesha, but also by the late Professor John Lawson of the University Hospital, Ibadan, who brought numbers of visiting professionals to see the Methodist Guild Hospital, Ilesha.

The letters tell of the challenges and the unexpected occurrences, but also of teamwork and comradeship of a group of dedicated people, in a land and people they came to love and respect.
