About the Author:
The author is a retired teacher living in Cumbria. She has always enjoyed turning humorous situations into verse, mainly for the amusement of friends and family. We hope that this collection of verses will make you smile too.

'Here it is, Maureen's collection of humorous verses. Meet June Chivers (to the tune of Moon River) strangers who find love in the bus queue or amongst the baked beans and the constant worry of where weight goes when you 'lose' it and why you can't remember the reason for coming upstairs.
'Buy a copy of this book and smile as you recognise some of the situations. Better still, buy lots of copies and give them to friends and relations and brighten up their day too.'
Nicholas Corder, author, playwright and lecturer.

Looking on the bright side of life

A retired teacher from Eskdale has written a collection of humorous poems. Maureen Toyn has always enjoyed writing verse for the amusement of friends and family, and The Bright Side is made up of her personal favourites.

'The book is a collection of verses that look on the bright side of life, mostly about simple things that have amused me," said Maureen.

The author wittily reflects on everyday situations. Maureen is adept at relating her own fears and insecurities to the reader in a light-hearted manner.

She tackles issues that readers can relate to, such as her weight and appearance, in a way that is refreshingly endearing and honest.

Technophone is my personal favourite and will ring true for anyone for whom 'the computer and the internet prove the greatest challenge yet.' Andrew Clarke, Whitehaven News, 20 October 2005
