Reviews:
A Riot of Thorn and Leaf is a word painting of eleven years shared with the cottage in Silverdale, its surroundings and its wildlife. a celebration of those wonderful years in this magical corner of England. She now lives in Shap, Cumbria with her husband and five cats.
The 82 page book is illustrated by fourteen line drawings by Brett D-M. Tipper from Carnforth.
A Riot of Thorn and Leaf is a very personal record by Dulcie Matthews of the Silverdale countryside and I commend it to Cumbrians and visitors alike. As well as a comprehensive check list of plants, birds and animals throughout the seasons, this journal is an engaging evocation of Dulcie's home ground and her 'sense of place', written with awareness and love of local wildlife.
Susan Johnson, Chairman, Cumbria Wildlife Trust

The Author:

The author Dulcie Matthew's roots come from generations of Wiltshire country people, although she was born and grew up in Coventry, through its Blitz and its re-building, moving to the hamlet of Crag Foot, Silverdale on the edge of the North Lancashire/Cumbrian border in 1987.
