Jeremy Rowan Robinson has been involved in mountaineering since he was a teenager. He was brought up in the Yorkshire Dales. He later worked as solicitor to the Lake District National Park authority and during that time was a member of the Langdale/Ambleside Mountain Rescue Team. He subsequently moved to Scotland where he became Professor of Planning and Environmental Law at Aberdeen University. He is currently a member of the Board of Scottish Natural Heritage and Chairman of the Access Forum for Scotland.
