About this Book:
This book tells the story of a remarkable man – Dr Isaac Bainbridge. A farmer’s son, born in 1885, he decided to become a doctor after injuring himself when he fell down a cliff.
Returning to his native village of Brough, after his studies at Durham University, Dr. Bainbridge was respected by his patients and the medical profession alike. Working seven days a week and on call 24 hours a day, he dealt with every type of medical emergency in the days when it took half a day to get to the nearest hospital.
After his death his devoted daughter closed the door on his surgery and dispensary. It was not opened again for half a century…
