About the Author:

Martin Daley was born in Carlisle and lived much of his childhood at Botcherby, attending St Cuthbert’s School. He spent seventeen years working for the Post Office, which included a ten year period living and working in Cheshire.
He published his first book in 2000. Anonymous Heroes is his fifth book and is the second in a series linking his interests in local and family history, with the wider social, political and military history that most people are familiar with.
The author currently works for the Local Authority and is a governor at his former school, St Cuthbert’s. He lives with his wife Wendy, near Carlisle.

Review:

In this story of the Great War… the challenge was to link local and family history to national and international histoy… By telling the story of his forefathers, Martin adds a human element and at the same time gives a snapshot of what life was like for working-class people in Carlisle. The period covered in this book was a time of great change.
